[The Acropolis, complete with smog.]

  Iain...

Out and at Acropolis by 9am. Great steaming hordes of tourists. Wander around Acropolis with Chris and Andrea, talking pictures of tourists and the occasional building.

Navigate over to the the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier,

with an American called Jon, to see the Évzones reinacting the Ministry of Silly Walks sketch. Then we go and relax in the National Garden next to it, for a few hours, during the heat of the day. Head back to the hotel and sleep for a bit.

[This one's worth enlarging. ]

We go to a veggie restaurant in evening (good), in the Plaka district, the only nice area of Athens, then on to Acropolis son et lumiére, "donated by France". This is in the Agora, the old marketplace, and is a bit old, and focusing on wars rather than philosophy - Cathy thought this was Bad and Wrong. Also a bit confusing about what happened when. Didn't feel like walking home, so we caught a taxi. Cathy yet to master the art of haggling.

  Cathy...

Chris reckoned someone tried our door handle last night. Hostel a bit worrying - something dodgy, not sure what. Everyone seems to have their own odd tales.

[This bit's okay - although the atmosphere at the Parthenon is completely ruined by tourists, including, sadly, us. Try enlarging this.]

Andrea dithered about going into Acropolis as it would cost her £4 (no ISIC) Bit sad! Nice Greek bloke helped us at soldier place - weird shoes. Gardens nice, coconut-stick selling bloke said tourists never buy. Veggie restaurant excellent, first soya all week. Night show - good view but poor. Taxi £10!

Got our own double room - better but still worried about security. This place alternates between being very useful and very worrying. The World Cup Final was on TV tonight and we managed to avoid it, which was an achievement.

Quote of the day:

"So where's the McDonalds? Where it's at, that's where I'll be. That's why we're here, right?"
- Stupid American
