  Cathy...

Will be home in 3 weeks. Don't know if this feels like a long or a short time. Room last night was too hot to sleep. Sun on huge window all afternoon, window not secure enough to leave open. Feel better about security here, though - as Iain says, it's more professional. We asked to swap rooms, were given a better one - I like hotels!

Went out 9am to Knossos, by bus. Greek buses okay providing you don't see other scary drivers through the window. Knossos very touristy, like the Acropolis. Wonder how long it will last. Took a 1 hour tour in English - £3 each, but entrance was free. Bought some t-shirts on way out, after eating lunch there. Fed a peacock and everyone else scared it off.

Got off early in Iraklion, found consulate (to check latest FCO advice) but closed. Walked back to hotel via Greek market - bit

touristy, but less so than rest of town. Slept and read for a couple of hours then went out 7pm. Couldn't find a single decent restaurant (i.e. Greek) after ½ hour's walk, so decided on Pizza Hut. Same price but better quality food. Had ice cream at another café - sparklers etc.! Iain had Greek coffee, yummy but I didn't have any or I wouldn't sleep. Got back about 11pm, room fairly hot. Read until 1pm.

Saw military jet in evening - thought noise had been commercial aircraft but now realise it is too fast. Lots of them fly over (3-4 per day). Wonder why? Very noisy. We're also on the airport flight path. Feeling much better by afternoon but pulled back muscle in evening. Hope it's okay to carry rucksacks. Also been heavily bitten in last 3 days. Iain hasn't - unfair!. At least 20 bites all over, rather itchy. All swollen and red. Iain thinks I am allergic. Typical.

  Iain...

Cathy blames her bites on Athenian bedbugs.

Still collecting "Stupid American Quotes". Second installment:

"So where's the labyrinth?"
- At Knossos, after being told the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur.

We've also clocked up:

"We should bomb the hell out of them, that's what the US is for - we've got the best arms, let's use them."
- On the politcal situation in Kosovo.
