  Cathy...

Got up 9am to check out by 10am. Room was a bearable heat (just). Took ages to pack and I asked Iain where his DMs were. He couldn't find them and we eventually drew the conclusion that he'd left them on a ferry two days ago and hadn't noticed! I wasn't impressed. Went to the Post Office to send my sister a parcel, then to the Consulate to check safety of travel to Turkey etc, in case anything had changed since we left the UK. Not much help but a reassurance.

We had toasted cheese sandwiches for both breakfast and lunch, which were nice and cheap but not inspiring. We sat in the square at midday to decide what to do and there wasn't anything that needed less than a day. We had four hours before the ferry was due, so we decided to return to the hotel, which was at least cool, and sit in their living room. We left for the ferry at 12.30pm, a hot and tiring walk.

No ferry arrives - it is delayed until 6.20pm. We are very pissed off about this entire waste of a day. This also means we won't get to the hostel before 11pm, so we call them and let them know we'll be late. We are assured our rooms will be kept. The ferry finally departs at 7pm, full of worried backpackers, and arrives close to midnight. The Captain somehow misses the dock first time around, and by the time we get a bus to the town it is nearly 1.30am. Our beds have just been given to the people who arrived before us, from our boat, despite denials from the caretaker. We are seriously annoyed, as are two Australians in the same situation. We're told we can have roof accommodation, which we take, as we have no better alternative. It's 2.30am before we get to bed, knackered and angry.

I am getting very disillusioned about the Greek Island thing, and am itching to get to Istanbul.
